Healing our Connection Supporting Survivors of Domestic Violence At The Family Co., we know that love and connection can take many forms. For some, however, past experiences with unhealthy or abusive relationships have made it difficult to trust and connect with others. February is a time to highlight the importance of healing connections and the resources available to support survivors of domestic violence. Our Pathway of Change program is designed to provide a safe space for individuals to heal, rebuild trust, and foster new, healthier relationships. Understanding Domestic ViolenceDomestic violence isn’t always physical. It can include emotional, psychological, financial, and verbal abuse. Recognising the signs is the first step in offering support to someone who may be experiencing abuse. Signs of Domestic Violence: Controlling behaviour (e.g., isolating a partner from friends and family) Financial control (e.g., restricting access to money) Verbal insults or threats Physical harm or intimidation If you suspect someone is experiencing domestic violence, listen without judgment and offer your support. Let them know they are not alone. Rebuilding Trust After AbuseSurvivors of domestic violence often face challenges when it comes to rebuilding trust. Healing takes time, and it’s important to provide survivors with the tools they need to feel safe again. Encourage open communication and patience. Let survivors take the lead in sharing their stories and expressing their needs. Self-Care and Emotional HealingHealing from trauma involves self-care and emotional support. Survivors should be encouraged to prioritise their own well-being and take small steps toward healing. Suggest activities that promote self-care, such as journaling, mindfulness exercises, or joining a support group like Pathway of Change. How The Family Co. Can Help Our Pathway of Change program provides a safe and supportive environment for survivors to navigate their healing journey.
