Our History

Founded in 1987, and incorporated as an association in 1994, Sutherland Shire Family Services has become a leading provider of innovative and professional services for families and children living in the Sutherland Shire and St.George areas.

From humble beginnings working from a small back office in Miranda, Sutherland Shire Family Services has become a key support service for domestic violence victims and their children in both areas.

In 2012, SSFS extended their purpose built centre in Jannali, providing workers with much needed office space, more group work space, and counselling rooms.

In 2021, SSFS changed our name to The Family Co.

In 2025, The Family Co. proudly launched its second location at Hurstville. Shop 9, 3 Cross Street, Westfield Hurstville.

When the Cost of Living Becomes the Cost of Leaving

For too long, the question has been "why doesn't she leave?" In Australia's cost of living crisis, the more honest question is "how could she possibly afford to?" We unpack the hidden weight of economic abuse, what the latest research tells us about life in 2026 Australia, and how The Family Co. walks alongside women rebuilding their independence, safety and futures.

    The Day After

The Day After is our End of Financial Year appeal. It's about the quiet moment after support arrives: when a woman feels safe at home, a child sleeps soundly, and life slowly starts to look like itself again. Your tax-deductible gift helps fund both the practical care a family needs and the work that makes it possible, helping more people across Southern Sydney move from surviving to thriving.
