Why Families Matter More Than Ever

At The Family Co. everything we do is grounded in one powerful belief: every family deserves the opportunity to feel safe, connected, and supported. That’s why we’re proud to stand behind National Families Week 2025 (12 - 18 May) - a week dedicated to celebrating the vital role families play in shaping our communities and our nation.

The 2025 theme, “Lending a hand to thrive - supporting each other”, couldn’t align more perfectly with our mission. In our work across the Sutherland Shire, St. George, Georges River and Bayside regions, we see every day how diverse, resilient, and strong families truly are, and how crucial it is to invest in their well-being, and how the simple act of support makes such an impact.

From delivering domestic and family violence support, parenting programs, and youth mentoring, to providing early intervention and community education, The Family Co. exists to walk alongside families in all their forms, whether that is chosen, biological, blended, foster, or kinship. National Families Week is a powerful reminder of the importance of nurturing these connections and building systems that allow families to thrive.

We believe that strong families build strong communities. But strong families don’t just happen, they need time, care, and support. That’s why this week, and every week, we advocate for inclusive policies, trauma-informed services, and accessible supports that meet families where they are.

Whether you're a parent, carer, teacher, neighbour, or friend, you have the power to help strengthen the fabric of our communities. Here are five ways to honour National Families Week in your own life:

5 Ways to Celebrate and Strengthen Families This Week

  1. Connect with Meaning
Put the devices down and carve out real time with loved ones — even a short walk, a shared meal, or a board game night can strengthen bonds.

  2. Celebrate Your Family’s Uniqueness
There’s no one “right” way to be a family. Use this week to reflect on what makes your crew special and share stories that honour your journey.

  3. Reach Out for Support if You Need It
Strong families ask for help when they need it. Whether it’s parenting support, counselling, or safety planning, our team at The Family Co. is here for you.

  4. Get Involved in Your Community
Volunteer, donate, or simply check in with a neighbour. Connection and kindness create ripple effects that strengthen families everywhere.

  5. Advocate for Families Everywhere
Use your voice to support services and policies that protect children, empower parents, and build safe, inclusive communities.

National Families Week is more than just a celebration - it’s a call to action. At The Family Co., we remain fiercely committed to building a future where all families feel seen, heard, and held. Let’s come together to celebrate, support, and stand beside families, not just this week, but always.

Happy National Families Week 2025!
