The Power of Connection Healing After Domestic and Family Violence For women who have experienced Domestic and Family Violence (DFV), the road to healing can often feel isolating. Leaving a harmful situation is just the first step, what comes after is just as important. Finding a sense of connection, understanding, and support can be the key to rebuilding confidence, trust, and resilience. At The Family Co., we know that women don’t just need safety—they need community. That’s why we offer Pathway of Change, a free, 5-week education and support group designed to provide a safe and nurturing space for women in the community. This group helps women understand the complexity of DFV, navigate the emotional impact, and reduce the social isolation that often follows their experiences. Why Connection Matters After DFV When a woman experiences DFV, it doesn’t just affect her physically - it impacts her sense of self, emotional well-being, and relationships with others. Many women describe feeling lost, ashamed, or disconnected after leaving a harmful relationship. But isolation doesn’t have to be the next chapter. Repeatedly research shows that social support is a critical factor in healing from trauma. Having a space to share experiences, learn about the patterns of DFV, and hear from others who understand can be incredibly empowering. How Pathway of Change Supports Women Through the lived and shared experiences of participants, Pathway of Change allows women to build on their strengths and develop resilience skills. The program covers essential topics such as: Understanding DFV - What it is, how common it is, and recognising its patternsReducing Shame - Breaking the silence and shifting the blame away from survivorsBuilding Resilience - Learning strategies for healing and reclaiming personal powerSafety Planning & Self-Care - Practical tools to create a safer future Women who have completed the program often say that walking into the first session felt daunting - but by the end, they had gained a sense of belonging, strength, and renewed hope.
