SSFS was proud to be part of the Australian Defence Force's DCO Expo last weekend, where Defence Families enjoyed a day out at Luna Park, while also learning about all the local community facilities available to them. SSFS showcased our Defence Family Caseworker Program, and shared details of our Coffee & Connect Local Catchups, which aim to reduce isolation and provide an ongoing opportunity for local Defence families to meet others like them.

The aim of this event is to provide Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families with information about local community service and support organisations. The DCO Welcome Expo is open to all Defence member and families, with a particular focus on those newly posted tot the greater Sydney area. The Welcome Day is an opportunity for the community to showcase all it has to offer ADF families. The day was a fantastic success with over 600 Defence families enjoying the day out.

Both Julie & Chloe from our team attended on behalf of SSFS, and were thrilled with the interest in our services from local Defence families who were excited to learn of our specific services, and in particular, our newly introduced Coffee & Connect program. This program gives local Defence families an opportunity to socialise on a regular basis, reducing the isolation many feel with frequent relocations.

Sutherland Shire Family Services have a dedicated Defence Family Worker, who is available to work with local Defence families and assist across a broad range of issues.

The families appeared to be having a lot fun on the rides after the Expo, and took away some great information on how they can be better supported in their community.
