New angel mural kicks off the Pieces of Engadine initiative

Our Engadine District Youth Services team delivered the Pieces of Engadine Initiative in late 2020, with local youths engaged in creating the public street art in conjunction with local artist, funded by Sutherland Shire Council's Community Grants program. The new "Angel mural" is now a social media favourite amongst local teens.

Pieces of Engadine aimed to engage local artistic young people to work alongside professional street artists in creating public art pieces in the Engadine community. The Angel Mural is the first of what we hope to become an ongoing event in the area.

The outcome were achieved through 6 art workshops, that were facilitated by local artist Sarah Rowan, over Term 4 2020. Through the structured and guided workshops young people were able to contribute to the design process and build communication and collaboration skills.  27 young people attended these workshops over the 6 week period, learning and practicing their artistic expression with the direction of the professional artist. They were supported and mentored to grow confidence in themselves and their abilities and foster teamwork skills to develop the final design produced.
