What We Do Domestic Violence Support Therapeutic Domestic and Family Violence Services The Family Co’s “Therapeutic Domestic and Family Violence Services” work with safe caregivers and their children to rebuild a secure attachment between them, understand how children are impacted by domestic violence and why they may see symptoms continuing even when the family is physically safe. This program assists caregivers to learn the skills to create an emotionally safe environment and to understand that children heal within secure and caring relationships. Our skilled therapists focus on a comprehensive approach that supports both caregivers and children to build skills and understanding, and assist families to overcome the impacts of domestic and family violence and build healthier, more secure relationships. In this program, each family will be supported to develop an individualised therapeutic plan where they are able to access 6 sessions, tailored and flexible to meet each family’s needs. Families will then have the opportunity to engage in the following program options: Individual parent/caregiver support – inclusive of case work/counselling sessions which allow parents/caregivers to address unique concerns in relation to their family’s trauma and receive professional support on approaching change Psycho-education group programs - 'Healing Connections' supports understanding of the impact of traumatic experiences as well as how to support children in this; assists in developing stronger connections between parents/carer and their child/ren; and builds community with others in similar circumstances Caregiver/child sessions - The 'Growing Resilience' program delivers interactive activities to rebuild connection between caregiver/child, support healing in their relationships, and improve attachment Through this program, families who have been impacted by domestic and family violence will be empowered to build resilience, discover purpose, and enhance self-esteem, and rebuild, strengthen and repair safe caregiver parent/child relationships to prevent long-term impacts of trauma, including mental health issues for both the caregiver and the child.
